Clump sheets used to be harvested for hat making. Harvest happens all year for clump aged two to three years and older. Shoots are edible and are harvested from July to September. Clump are used domestically for scaffolding or sold on local markets at $0.5 per cane (Vientiane). Shoots sell at $0.3 per kg (Vientiane). Sandy soil is most appropriate for Mai Sang Phai, a typical domesticated bamboo in Laos, grown in home gardens as a fence after being propagated by stumps or clump cuttings.
